- Consider to guide instead of control
If you are always jumping in to help your child deal with a disturbing situation, you are wasting valuable chances to teach them peace by themselves. Instead of controlling the situation, it would help if you guided them to navigate the situation. This is a hands-on experience they would not forget easily, and it would be an effective yet easy way parents can utilize to teach their children various concepts.
- Define what's peace to your children
Talk about what peace means to you and ask for your child's thoughts. The idea of peace can mean different things to different people, and so it's not necessary peace means the same thing to your child.. Talk about it’s importance, share your ideas, and be open to really hearing your child’s opinion. You may be even surprised by what your child can teach you.
- Be their role model
While children aren’t always good at listening, they never fail to imitate your actions. How you respond to conflicts when your child is around significantly shapes their reactions and behavior. For your child to learn peace, it’s important that you be mindful of the example you’re settingand communicate in a way you would want your child to follow when dealing with frustrations. Show compassion, forgiveness, and understanding when talking to or about other people.
- Creative playtime
Playtime is among the most effective opportunities which you can utilize to pass on your values to your children. Set the right environment from picking the right toys and location, and creatively guide your kids to navigate various problems or concerns. Let them learn how to communicate despite facing frustrating situations, and empower them to handle the situation peacefully by themselves. This will be imbibed in their lives moving forward, making playtime not only fun and engaging but also an invaluable learning opportunity.
Moulding your children into peace-loving adults might seem like an impossible task, but it is the little things in your routine that matters that can imbibe values in your children.
